Our entry-level models aim to provide a taste of open-baffle rendition at affordable prices, and can be ordered in a variety of configurations suitable for analog, digital, stream and cast sources. Here you will also find compact open-baffle speakers for home cinema systems. As with all models in our range, the number designates the displacement of the bass drivers in each speaker: the bigger the number, the more air the speaker moves. All prices include UK VAT.

Bladewing 638: from £699 per pair

The 638 is a two-way design comprising a textbook, gracefully curved ‘wide baffle’. It follows the well-trodden path of a 15″ woofer combined with a full-range driver with superb phase coherence that functions without interruption of a crossover across most of the audible range and provides superb intelligibility for voices.

Specification:
Constrained layer damped construction
Single 15″ bass driver: cast aluminium frame and paper cone
Single 4″ full-range driver (paper cone)
Overall frequency response: 35Hz-19KHz (±3dB)
Width: 430mm / Height: 775mm / Depth: 290mm

Amplification/Crossover Options:

  1. Bare Edition: £699 per pair | The 638 is available ‘bare’ (without crossover or amplifier) at £699 per pair – ideal for those wanting to use their own passive crossover or (for instance) four-channel pro amps with EQ and digital crossover.
  2. Bluetooth Edition: £799 per pair | 50W + 50W + 100W (4 ohms) one-box amplifier with inbuilt crossover, supplemented by app-based digital EQ. Bluetooth and analog (RCA) inputs. Please note this option has mono-summed bass.
  3. Pro Digital Edition: £999 per pair | 50W + 50W + 100W + 100W (4 ohms) dual amplifiers plus studio recording interface with digital crossover. Digital only – requires laptop, desktop, or miniature PC (such as RPi) as a source. Permits four-channel recording, and includes headphone amplifier.
  4. Hypex Edition: £1,599 per pair | 4x 125W (4 ohm) Hypex amplifiers with active crossovers and full DSP/room correction. RCA and XLR (true balanced) analog inputs. AES and SPDIF digital inputs (115dB SNR). Suitable for any source. Optional Bluetooth receiver available.

Bladewing 415: from £799 per pair

The two-way 415 model takes a similar design approach to the 638, but offers the advantage of a much slimmer baffle, easier to accommodate in smaller rooms. The same full-range driver is deployed – again providing excellent reproduction of vocals – and the system has a similar frequency response (extending to at least 35Hz in-room), but the smaller displacement (415cc, naturally) makes it less able to energise larger spaces. These properties – an inevitable function of its size and price – make the 415 models suited to integration with conventional subwoofers, ie in an A/V system.

Specification:
Constrained layer damped construction
Dual 10″ bass drivers: steel frames and pulp cones
Single 4″ full-range driver (paper cone)
Overall frequency response: 35Hz-19KHz (±3dB)
Width: 297mm / Height: 775mm / Depth: 290mm

Amplification/Crossover Options:

  1. Bare Edition: £799 per pair | The 415 is available ‘bare’ (without crossover or amplifier) at £799 per pair – ideal for those wanting to use their own passive crossover or (for instance) four-channel pro amps with EQ and digital crossover.
  2. Theatre Edition: £999 per pair | 2x 50W + 2x 100W dual amplifiers with single RCA input and inbuilt active crossovers – ideal for ‘preamp-out’ connection to an AV amplifier running EQ and room correction. The Bladewing 415 Theatre Edition is also available singly at £499. If used with an external DAC, or as a streaming endpoint, digital PEQ is mandatory. Profile supplied on request. This edition is not suitable for turntables or other analog sources without equalisation.
  3. Pro Digital Edition: £1,199 per pair: | 2x50W + 2x 100W (4 ohms) dual amplifiers plus studio recording interface with digital crossover. Digital only – requires laptop, desktop, or mini PC such as RPi. Permits four-channel recording, and includes headphone amplifier.
  4. Hypex Edition: £1,699 per pair: 4x 125W (4 ohm) Hypex amplifiers with active crossovers and full DSP/room correction. RCA and XLR (true balanced) analog inputs. AES and SPDIF digital inputs (115dB SNR). Suitable for any source. Optional Bluetooth receiver available.

Bladewing 415.3

For those seeking higher levels of refinement and detail in a very compact package for smaller rooms, the 415 is also available as a three-way model, featuring six channels of Hypex amplification. It is also well suited to use as an active cinema speaker and sold singly at £999: the 775mm height will fit underneath typical screens. The low crossover (900Hz) allows most of the mid-range and treble to covered by a single transducer, but the addition of a low-midrange driver improves the transition between low- and high-frequencies, provides more punchy and articulate midbass, and unloads the full-range driver from having to operate close to its resonant frequency – providing greater clarity throughout.

Specification:
Constrained layer damped construction
Dual 10″ bass drivers: steel frames and pulp cones
Single 6″ mid/bass drive with cast aluminium frame and mica cone (150-900Hz)
Single 4″ full-range driver with steel frame and paper cone (900Hz-19KHz)
Overall frequency response: 35Hz-19KHz (±3dB)
Width: 297mm / Height: 775mm / Depth: 290mm
6x 125W Hypex amplifiers
Active crossover with full DSP/room correction
Single-ended and balanced analog inputs
AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs: onboard DAC with 115dB SNR.
Price: £1,999 per pair (inc VAT)

Bladewing 942.3

The 942 – as the name suggests – offers greater authority over the lower registers, but is no larger than the entry-level 638. Like the 415.3, it is a three-way design with six channels of Hypex amplification. Whereas the 415.3 centres on a full-range driver, the 942.3 allows the same superb mid-bass driver to operate up to 2.2KHz where it hands over to a supersonic (25KHz) soft-dome tweeter. It has notably better high frequency detail retrieval and a ‘warmer’ overall tonality than the other Bladewing models.

Specification:
Constrained layer damped construction
Dual 10″ bass drivers: steel frames and pulp cones
Single 6″ mid/bass drive with cast aluminium frame and mica cone (150-1500Hz)
Single 1″ soft-dome tweeter (1500Hz-25KHz)
Overall frequency response: 35Hz-25KHz (±3dB)
Width: 297mm / Height: 775mm / Depth: 290mm
6x 125W Hypex amplifiers
Active crossover with full DSP/room correction
Single-ended and balanced analog inputs
AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs: onboard DAC with 115dB SNR.
Price: £2,499 per pair (inc VAT)
